The Bachelors of Arts (General) programme is a broad-based programme with a mix of disciplinary, interdisciplinary and skill-based courses. It has the following objectives:
- Introduce the learners to the main themes and topics of disciplines in humanities, social sciences and sciences,
- Provide the learners with the information and skills necessary to understand and analyse their world,
- Enable the learners to work towards ability and skill enhancement through exposure to appropriate courses.
- Impart reading and writing skills through assignments and exercises of such kind at an undergraduate level.
- Expose the learner to the importance of interdisciplinarity.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A) program in 12 streams namely polity, history, civics, philosophy, mathematics etc. Admission to IGNOU B. A program is offered on a direct basis since it is an open university and the number of seats in each program is unlimited. The application mode for IGNOU Courses is online and registration opens twice in a year for January and June Session. BAG or Bachelor of Arts General is an undergraduate degree conferred to the students of Humanities. This is one of the most popular courses among students. Like any undergraduate course, BAG too is a three-year degree course and can be done taking honours or pass subjects. Students pursuing it as honours take one or more subjects as Major.
There is a language core course in each of the first four semesters of the programme. In the first semester, you have a choice of language core courses to choose from. In the next three semesters, the choice is limited to either Hindi or English languages.
While pursuing the IGNOU Bachelor of Arts (BAG) programme, the students have to choose the subjects in all three years from three different types of courses which has been mentioned below: Foundation Courses (24 Credits) Elective Courses (56 Credits or 64 Credits) Application Oriented Courses (16 or 8 Credits)
It is a broad-based programme with a mix of disciplinary, interdisciplinary and skill-based courses. The University follows the credit system for offering all its programmes. One credit is equal to 30 hours of learner’s study time. To earn a Bachelor’s Degree, a learner has to complete 132 credits in six semesters.
There is no entrance for BAG courses. There is an entrance for B.Com. For BA, your class 12th marks would be considered in +2. Also, due to the going pandemic, the entrances at DU have been postponed and it is possible that they may not hold them.
Ans. One can apply for re-admission for all the incomplete courses in a program. After the maximum duration of BAG i.e. 06 years, two more years of re-admission time is left for completing the incomplete courses. One is required to take re-admission by paying a pro-rata fee.
Students who are already enrolled in a programme of one year or longer duration can also simultaneously register themselves for any Certificate programme of 6 months’ duration. However, if there is any clash of dates of counselling or examination schedule between the two programmes taken, the University will not be in a position to make adjustments. Simultaneously pursuing two academic Programmes of one year or longer duration either from the same University or one from the Open University (under ODL mode) and the other from Conventional University (regular or face-to-face mode) is not permitted, as of now.
The pattern of the question papers will be generally similar to the pattern of the assignments. Reference to context questions may also be part of certain question papers. Students are advised to prepare a step beyond keeping in view the nature and spirit of all the key items mentioned in the syllabus
