History of India from the Earliest Times Up to C. 300 CE (BHIC 131)

The course BHIC 131: History of India from the Earliest Times to c. 300 CE has been designed with these aims and concerns in mind. History of India from c. 300 to 1206 (BHIC 132)

This course is a chronological continuation of BHIC 131: History of India from the Earliest Times to c. 300 CE. It provides a historical overview of significant polities that arose and left their imprint in both northern and southern India during this time period. It starts with the Guptas and Pushyabhutis and continues with the Pallavas, Pandyas, Kalachuris, Kadambas, Chalukyas, Cholas, and Hoysalas before ending with the Rajputs, Rashtrakutas, Arabs, and Mahmud Ghazni and Mohammad Ghouri’s invasions. It also incorporates the period’s economic, social, and cultural history, which it demonstrates, reflects, and exhibits. History of India from 1707 to 1950 (BHIC 134)

The purpose of this course is to provide an outline of modern Indian history. Following the fall of the Mughal Empire, several independent nations developed in India, resulting in never-ending territorial and revenue disputes. Various European corporations got involved in this political and military game in order to gain more power. Finally, the English East India Company not only surpassed its European competitors, but also gained ground at the cost of Indian rulers.
